interesting site.
My Grandfather was a Cannock Chase coal miner who lived on Chase Terrace. He and his brothers emmigrated to Novascotia Canada as miners before WW1.He and my Grandma returned to UK,and the outbreak of the War meant that they never returned again to Canada. My father was also down the mines as a Bevan Boy in WW2.I am now going to have a closer look at your site.

I have found this site to be interesting and informative. It is welcoming to note that the history of the mines in the Cannock Area is being preserved for future generations.

I heard about your site while on holiday in Italy, from Mike Lucas, he told me about the a book that he, together with a number of friends are writing a book about the history of mining in the area from (I think) 1842. He made it sound interesting, and your web site confirms. Thank you.

I am researching my family history and am interested in the surname Gillion, possibly an Irish connection, before Norton Canes. Any help appreciated.

Congratulations to Ken Edwards: most interesting reads about the WILLIAMSONs. I am related to them and have been researching them, together with the LONGSTAFFs and SUMMERSIDEs: all family also. I have photographs and some information about the above families, if you are interested. I would love to share the information/ see more put on the site about Thomas LONGSTAFF who followed WILLIAMSON down from the Durham area. Thomas LONGSTAFF was a coal inspector and later, Colliery under manager. He died in 1905 aged 77 at the Accident House, Littleworth, Cannock. He was my Great Great Grandfather.
Also, I believe the following roads: Longstaff Ave, Summerside Ave and Williamson Ave are all named after members of my family. I have tried Cannock Council, but could not find out more: never heard back!

Interesting site, the organisation I work for has a Heritage project and part of that project is looking at the history of mining in Norton Canes. Have you any information on the colleries in that area.
